Evening in Seoul
Jia was working at a small publishing company in Mapo District, Seoul.
These days work had been busy, so she had been leaving work late every day.
That day as well, she could only leave the company building after nine at night.
A light rain was falling outside, and wet city lights were glittering on the streets.
Jia let out a sigh and searched through her bag.
But she couldn't find her umbrella.
"No way... did I leave it at the office?"
Jia hesitated for a moment, but she was too tired to go back upstairs.
Then someone quietly spoke to her from behind.
"Would you like to share?"
When Jia turned around, a man holding a black umbrella was standing there.
He was Minjun, who worked at a design company on the third floor of the same building.
They had run into each other several times in the elevator, but they had never properly talked.
Jia smiled with a slightly flustered expression.
"Ah... thank you."
The two began slowly walking toward the subway station under the same umbrella.
At first it was a little awkward, but Minjun started asking light questions first.
"You must read a lot of books if you work at a publishing company."
Jia smiled softly and shook her head.
"Not really as much as you'd think. Sometimes after work I don't even want to read anything."
Minjun smiled as if he understood.
"Me too. After doing design work all day, I don't want to look at anything when I get home."
Before they knew it, the two had arrived in front of the subway station.
The rain had almost stopped, but neither of them could easily say goodbye first.
After a brief silence, Minjun carefully spoke.
"Will you get off work late tomorrow too?"
Jia answered with a small smile.
"Probably."
Minjun hesitated briefly and smiled softly.
"Then don't forget to bring your umbrella tomorrow too."
Even while walking down the subway stairs, Jia strangely couldn't stop smiling.
