가을 학기가 시작된 지 한 달쯤 지났을 무렵이었다.

It had been about a month since the autumn semester started.

서연과 지민은 매일 수업이 끝난 뒤에 도서관에서 과제를 하곤 했다.

After classes ended every day, Seoyeon and Jimin would usually do assignments at the library.

특히 창가 자리는 햇빛이 잘 들어와서 두 사람이 가장 좋아하는 곳이었다.

The window seats, where sunlight came in nicely, were their favorite place.

"너 요즘 왜 자꾸 경영학과 건물 근처를 지나가?"

"Why do you keep walking near the business department building these days?"

지민이 장난스러운 표정으로 물었다.

Jimin asked with a playful expression.

"무슨 소리야? 그냥 지름길이라서 그런 거지."

"What are you talking about? It's just because it's a shortcut."

"정말 그뿐이야?"

"Is that really all?"

서연은 대답하지 못한 채 괜히 노트북만 바라보았다.

Unable to answer, Seoyeon simply stared at her laptop for no reason.

그런 반응을 본 지민은 결국 웃음을 터뜨렸다.

Seeing that reaction, Jimin eventually burst into laughter.

"역시 누군가 좋아하는구나?"

"So you really do like someone, huh?"

"조용히 좀 해! 사람들 다 듣겠어."

"Be quiet! Everyone's going to hear."

지민은 작은 목소리로 속삭였다.

Jimin whispered softly.

"그래서 누군데? 내가 아는 사람이야?"

"So who is it? Is it someone I know?"

서연은 한숨을 내쉬더니 작게 고개를 끄덕였다.

Seoyeon let out a sigh and nodded quietly.

"지난번에 축제 준비할 때 같이 일했던 선배 있잖아."

"You know that senior I worked with during the festival preparations last time."

"아, 혹시 민우 선배?"

"Ah, you mean Minwoo?"

서연의 얼굴이 순식간에 붉어졌다.

Seoyeon's face instantly turned red.

"야, 목소리 좀 줄이라니까."

"Hey, I told you to lower your voice."

"미안, 근데 진짜 잘생기긴 했지."

"Sorry, but he really is handsome."

"그것보다 성격이 좋아."

"More than that, his personality is nice."

"오~ 이제 완전히 빠졌네."

"Oh~ you've completely fallen for him now."

서연은 부정하려다가 결국 포기한 듯 웃었다.

Seoyeon tried to deny it but eventually laughed as if giving up.

"근데 문제는 나를 후배 이상으로 생각하는지 모르겠다는 거야."

"But the problem is that I don't know whether he thinks of me as more than just a junior."

지민은 잠시 생각하더니 의미심장한 미소를 지었다.

Jimin thought for a moment and gave a meaningful smile.

"그럼 한번 떠봐."

"Then test the waters once."

"어떻게?"

"How?"

"주말에 영화 보러 가자고 해 봐."

"Ask him to go watch a movie this weekend."

"갑자기 그러면 이상하게 생각하지 않을까?"

"Wouldn't that seem strange if I suddenly did that?"

"좋아하면 안 이상하게 생각하겠지."

"If he likes you, he won't think it's strange."

그때 누군가 두 사람 앞에 커피 두 잔을 내려놓았다.

At that moment, someone placed two cups of coffee in front of them.

"시험 기간이라 힘들죠?"

"Exams must be tough, right?"

고개를 든 서연은 순간 말을 잃었다.

When Seoyeon raised her head, she was momentarily speechless.

민우가 웃고 있었던 것이다.

It was Minwoo smiling at them.

"아까부터 계속 여기 앉아 있길래 커피 사 왔어요."

"You two had been sitting here for a while, so I brought coffee."

지민은 서연을 힐끗 쳐다보며 몰래 웃었다.

Jimin glanced at Seoyeon and secretly smiled.

"선배도 같이 앉으실래요?"

"Would you like to sit with us too?"

"그래도 돼?"

"Would that be okay?"

민우가 서연을 바라보며 묻자 서연은 당황한 채로 고개를 끄덕였다.

When Minwoo asked while looking at Seoyeon, she nodded in a flustered state.

창밖으로는 붉게 물든 낙엽이 천천히 떨어지고 있었다.

Outside the window, red autumn leaves were slowly falling.
