소도시 외곽의 오래된 탑에는 리안이라는 젊은 연금술사가 살고 있었어요.

낮에는 시장에서 조용히 약초를 사고, 밤이 되면 탑 창문에서 푸른빛이 새어나왔기 때문이에요.

It was because during the day he quietly bought herbs at the market, and at night a blue light leaked from the tower windows.

리안은 원래 왕립 마법학교에서 공부했지만 몇 년 전 갑자기 학교를 떠났어요.

Rian originally studied at the royal magic academy, but suddenly left several years ago.

사람들은 실패한 실험 때문이라고 수군거렸지만 정확한 이유를 아는 사람은 거의 없었어요.

People whispered that it was because of a failed experiment, but almost no one knew the exact reason.

탑 안에는 수백 개의 병과 오래된 책들이 가득했어요.

Inside the tower were hundreds of bottles and old books.

어떤 병에는 붉은 액체가 들어 있었고, 어떤 병에서는 작은 빛이 천천히 움직이고 있었어요.

Some bottles contained red liquid, and in others small lights slowly moved around.

리안은 매일 새벽까지 혼자 연구를 계속했어요.

Every day, Rian continued his research alone until dawn.

그날 밤에도 그는 낡은 책상 앞에 앉아 작은 수정 조각을 바라보고 있었어요.

That night too, he sat in front of an old desk staring at a small crystal fragment.

"이상하네…”

"That's strange…"

수정은 아주 약하게 빛나고 있었어요.

The crystal was glowing faintly.

하지만 몇 시간 전까지만 해도 평범한 돌처럼 보였어요.

But only a few hours earlier it had looked like an ordinary stone.

리안은 조심스럽게 손을 뻗어 수정을 만졌어요.

Rian carefully reached out and touched the crystal.

그러자 갑자기 머릿속에서 낯선 목소리가 들렸어요.

Suddenly, an unfamiliar voice echoed inside his head.

"드디어 찾았군.”

"You finally found it."

리안은 깜짝 놀라 손을 떨어뜨렸어요.

Startled, Rian dropped his hand.

수정은 바닥으로 굴러갔지만 깨지지는 않았어요.

The crystal rolled across the floor, but it did not break.

"누구지?”

"Who is it?"

하지만 방 안에는 아무도 없었어요.

But there was nobody in the room.

바깥에서는 바람 소리만 들렸어요.

Outside, only the sound of the wind could be heard.

잠시 침묵이 흐른 뒤 목소리가 다시 들렸어요.

After a moment of silence, the voice spoke again.

"겁먹지 마라. 나는 오래전 이 수정 안에 봉인된 연금술사다.”

"Do not be afraid. I am an alchemist sealed inside this crystal long ago."

리안은 믿을 수 없다는 표정으로 수정을 집어 들었어요.

Rian picked up the crystal with an expression of disbelief.

"말도 안 돼…”

"That's impossible…"

"하지만 사실이다.”

"But it is true."
